...you can’t evangelize without understanding the cultural context. It would be like a missionary attempting to work in a foreign country without understanding its language or customs. He’d make a fool of himself. What is the relationship between worldviews and evangelism? Good question...

Colson's comment: "You CAN'T evangelize..." goes a little too far. The gospel is simple enough that you can share it with anyone, any age, anywhere. But, I think that you will have more success communicating over the long run if you will learn the culture. But that takes a long time and is never really complete. To wait until that point to start sharing the gospel is unnecessary.

You make a excellent point. I have seen enough examples of culturally-oblivious witnesses used by God (for whatever reason) to help someone move toward or come to Christ. Generally it is their genuine love and courage to share that creates the context for God's power to manifest itself in the gospel. That, of course, doesn't mean we should ignore the importance of the "cultural context". So, I agree with you! Thanks for the post.
